THE GREXIT THAT WASN’T

They’ve agreed to a deal that apparently checks it
No matter the cost they just don’t want a Grexit.
But now they’ve concluded they’d rather not sever
The problems continue as awkward as ever.

Just at the point when almost everyone concluded that a “Grexit” -- Greece’s exit from the euro -- was imminent, they decided that it wasn’t. The jokes poured in.

The Onion displayed  an embarrassing bounced check from Greece taped up at the HQ of the International Monetary Fund.

The online bulletin board Reddit asked “What is the capital of Greece?” answered by “about 20 euros.”

On Twitter “What’s Grecian urn?” was answered by “A lot less than he did two years ago,”

And a New York Times cartoon shows a herd of European lemmings going over a cliff marked “Austerity”, with a Greek lemming running back to safety – while one of the European lemmings says “There’s always one idiot.” Which leads to my own take on the subject:

In Germany they regard it as an economic verity
That if you have a problem you must treat it with austerity.
In looking for a model they will treat you rather bitterly
If you follow down the road of Spain and Portugal and Italy.
